How we help
In-person events
We bring our members together in person in small groups to enjoy a variety of sporting events around the UK.
Our local groups also organise local events, such as our "Walk & Talk" on Southampton Common.
Whatever the event, we create an environment where men can talk and share experiences and escape some of the challenges they face in their everyday lives as a result of their cancer.
Experience a journey
A journey to help men facing advanced-stage cancers to feel better; to have a laugh and to find relief through humour as well as finding enjoyment through a shared love of sports.
Share with others
A like-minded support network, so that fellow cancer sufferers can connect both in-person and online to feel better mentally, emotionally, and socially.
Couch friendly
Regular Zoom catch-up
Casual monthly or quarterly Zoom meetings. No agenda, no expectations. Join in and chat with others, or stay in the background listening in. Only share when you're ready.
WhatsApp Community
We provide a moderated WhatsApp Community for registered members of The Cancer Club, where you can talk to other members about a variety of things, including any concerns you may have about your cancer diagnosis and treatment. There's a good chance that one of our members will have been in the same situation previously and happy to share their experience.
Although the WhatsApp Community is restricted to men only, because our mission is to get men talking, the Community isn't restricted to talking about cancer. There are lots of groups that you can join if you want to. You'll find that it's possible to chat about sport, general health & fitness, forthcoming events and perhaps even share a joke too. We even have some local groups, for members who are in the same part of the country and we are happy to create more such groups as The Cancer Club grows.
On this website, you'll find that registered members can comment on articles we have posted, register an interest in forthcoming events and access our online resource centre, which includes men’s coaching, grief counselling, financial advice and more.
Once your application to join The Cancer Club has been approved, you will be sent an invitation to join the WhatsApp Community (if you choose to do so, it's optional) and the restricted parts of this website will become available to you..
Safe space
We create an environment where men can talk and share experiences but where they can also feel normal by escaping the challenges they face in their everyday lives as a result of their cancer.
Genuine connections
Our community will be moderated by a small team of volunteers who have direct personal experience of cancer.
Online support
It’s so important to ask for help. Sometimes we just need someone to help us see a different light. We will provide online counselling for when those moments occur.
Everyone is welcome
A love of sport is not a necessary criterion for anyone wanting to join in. Feel free to share your own experiences as well as benefitting from the experiences of others.
Meet @ Sport
Sports for all
We invite our members to attend a variety of different sporting events including football, rugby, and cricket, to cater to different interests.
Priority access
We provide hospitality where appropriate to make the experience enjoyable, safe, and easy for anyone whose health issues make it a challenge to jostle through crowds.
Transport included
We aim to provide assistance with transportation to events (within a reasonable distance) to place the focus on enjoying the event, rather than the stress of getting there.
Walk & Talk
We encourage members who are local to each other to meet up locally from time to time, to create the opportunity to chat.
The Southampton Group meet monthly on Southampton Common, and occasionally elsewhere on an ad-hoc basis. Usually involving a Full English Breakfast at a local cafe...!
All you have to do is join the Cancer Club WhatsApp group for your local area to get in touch with members nearby and arrange to meet.
